Istanbul Bilgi University has been the first Turkish University that participated in ADR ODR International Mediation Competition!

The team that consists of Istanbul Bilgi University’s LLB students, Ayşegül Dağhan, Helin Erol, and Sıdıka Ilgaz Duman has been trained by their coach Ferda Canözer Paksoy and assistant coaches Damla Özbay and Yaman Gürsel to act as mediators and mediation advocates in mediation processes.

The theme of the competition was appointed as “Space Has No Limit ” by the organizing committee which focuses on Space and Technology disputes, addressing the needs of our changing and evolving world.

Following the intensive study period and hard work, the competition took place between 14-15 May 2022. Istanbul Bilgi University’s team got the first place at the “mediator” category out of the 22 participating teams.

The team’s achievement honored the hard work for mediation to be recognized and used in Turkey since this is the first time that a Turkish university has won a mediation competition.

The competition is composed of a mediation session from the beginning to the end. For each case, different teams are competing as clients, counsels, and mediators. The students are rated according to their abilities and skills to act within the given roles.

Istanbul Bilgi University’s team has shown an outstanding performance in the elimination rounds compared to its opponents from other universities from different countries such as Singapore, Indonesia, China, Brazil, United Kingdom, Italy, and Australia.

As the winning team, Istanbul Bilgi University’s team is awarded with the opportunity to represent Turkey in the negotiation competition which will be held in Dubai in November.
