Two earthquakes with a magnitude of 7.7 and 7.6 occurred in Kahramanmaraş
The 7.7 and 7.6 magnitude earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş Pazarcık caused heavy destruction in the region. Many citizens were injured and lost their lives in Kahramanmaraş, Gaziantep, Malatya, Osmaniye, Diyarbakır, Şanlıurfa, Adana, Adıyaman, Hatay and Kilis. Citizens trapped under collapsed buildings are being rescued by aid teams.

Schools and universities were closed in the provinces affected by the earthquake.
While Oktay announced that education was suspended in 10 provinces affected by the earthquake this week, a new statement came from the Ministry of National Education in the following minutes. Accordingly, education was suspended for 2 weeks in Kahramanmaraş, Hatay, Adıyaman and Malatya. Higher Education Institution also stated that higher education was suspended in 10 provinces where the earthquake was effective. The statement said, "Students will be provided with necessary facilities for exam and attendance between 6-17 February 2023."

Communication alert from AFAD: Communicate via SMS and internet-based messaging software
Personnel and food aid was set out from many provinces to earthquake zones. AFAD said, "Make your communication via short message service SMS and internet-based messaging software. Avoid making phone calls except in vital situations."

This week's general assembly meetings have been postponed
Parliament Speaker Mustafa Şentop announced that together with the opposition, they decided to postpone the general assembly meetings this week.

Events planned by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism were canceled
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism reported that the activities planned by the Ministry units were canceled due to the 7.7 magnitude earthquake, the epicenter of which was in the Pazarcık district of Kahramanmaraş and affecting 10 provinces.

All national sports events to be held are suspended until further notice.
Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Turkey Mehmet Kasapoğlu said: “All national sports organizations to be held in our country have been suspended until further notice. All our relevant units are on alert under the coordination of AFAD. Once again, I convey my best wishes to our beloved nation.”
