Hello everyone,
Three weeks after the French Open, another Grand Slam tournament starts, the most prestigious one, Wimbledon of course! Rafa Nadal, Thiem have withdrawn. But they were not for me within the potentials candidates for the title. Will Novak lift the trophee again, like in 2018 and 2019?
That's very possible but looking at the draw now he has two first tricky matchs vs Draper in the first round, who is a solid serve and volley guy but more important would be his second round vs Kevin Anderson from South Africa Anderson was a runner-up in 2018 and honestly, he can be a reel threat for Novak. If the Serb goes through these two rounds, then the road to the final is wide open for him.
Roger Federer, who won eight times the title in London, is coming highly motivated but he looks more and more his 40 years age and his early exit in last week Halle tournament does not look very good... But he is Roger, probably the Greatest player of all times. He should at least move to second week, and who knows...
His defeat vs Novak in 2019 final has not yet been digested after having served two times for the title in the last set tie-break. Roger is like Novak, they hate defeat, and he will do everything to be in the final and see his rival Djokovic on the other side of the net. To take his revange, like Novak vs Rafa in this year French Open.
Ok, too early to anticipate this final, many others players are there. Tsitsipas has a very hard opening match vs Tiafoe from US. Not sure the greek will manage to go through here....Medvedev is also facing a tough challenge from Struff in the first round...there will be some underdogs, as usual, among them i would say the big servers like Isner, Opelka from US, but also Roger Aliasime from Canada, or other seeded players such as Khachanov, Berretini or even Rublev from Russia who has improved a lot his skills on grass.
So this is a very open tournament, hard to guess who is going to win it, Novak is for sure the favorite, but would not it be a fairy tale if Roger manages to win for the ninth time at 40 years old? And then retire immediately like Pete Sampras in 2002 after winning his 14th GS at USO.
Let's see and enjoy ?
